Radio producers have overall control over the output of radio programmes. They are involved in the whole process of production, from generating ideas to promoting their product.

Broadcast assistants support the producer in the production of radio programmes. Their role is very varied as they are often required to assist in all aspects of production, including administrative work, programme planning, operating studio equipment, and recording and editing programme trailers.

A sound engineer brings a mix of aesthetic and technical skills to their work to make sure that the sound is of broadcast quality. Generally, they need to be able to distinguish sound quality and have an ear for pitch, timing and rhythm, as well as having a working knowledge of electricity, electronics and acoustics.
